A Quick History of Healing Waters Resort & Spa

A Local Hot Spot

This site was once called the “Navpachute,” after the Navajo, Apache and Ute tribes that frequented the hot springs. In 1938, original owner Cora Woods built the swimming pool along with a small motel which became known as The Spa Motel; and now, Healing Waters Resort and Spa.

A Family Affair

In 1950, the Giordano family of Walsenburg, Colorado bought the property and has owned it ever since. Family patriarch Mike Giordano drilled several wells in 1952 to tap the hot springs. In 1956, he added four motel rooms and a bathhouse with separate facilities for men and women.

In 1984, Marsha Preuit, Giordano’s daughter, took over operations. She and her husband continued to improve the property. Following in the family tradition, Marsha’s daughter Angel now runs the resort.
